I can see the sea...

One of the many things I miss from Greece is the sea. The big blue sea that calms me down. The endless view and the harmonic sound of the waves crashing on the beach. When I felt stressed out I would always go to the sea and meditate, think and calm down. Here in Sweden I never thought about going to the sea. I don't know why but I never did. I suppose it never felt the same...

Today we went for a little trip outside the Gothenburg city. It was a nice, sunny spring day and we wanted to enjoy it with the children. We were driving for a while and suddenly there it was. I saw the sea and it made me smile and my heart pounding. I was like a little child in the car clapping and shouting “I can see the sea, I can see the sea”. The white waves dancing and the boats balancing on them. I could see the sea! My son asked me why I was so happy and the only thing I could answer him was “I can see the sea”.

The little village by the sea is called Hjuvik and its only 32 min. from our home and is situated in Gothenburg Municipality. All the villas and the summerhouses has a wonderful view of the North Sea. I learned that there are many little islands around the area, called Öckerö islands. There are boats that can take you to the islands during the summer and a local told me that they are amazingly wonderful. The place is very popular in the summer! How can we have missed this?

We parked the car and went as close as we could. Unfortunately the wind was blowing so fiercely that the kids wanted to go back to the car. They started running towards it living me behind. Still looking at the sea!

I could hear them calling me back to the car. I closed my eyes, took a deep breath of the salty wind, I captured a picture of the dancing waves in my mind and got in to the car!
Now I am listening to my favorite song and traveling with my mind....Oh how I miss the sea!

Until next time

  2. It's true. The colours had nothing to do with the colours in Greece. It was a grey/green water full of stones. Just a little bit of sand among the stones. And the salty wind wasn't as salty as it is in Greece. Maybe that's why I didn't want to go to the sea here in Sweden. But as you say it was something. It made me want to come to Greece earlier... hahahhaha

  4. No place like home που λένε και στο χωριό μου.
